Ska is the musical genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950’s and was the precursor to rocksteady and then reggae music as we now know it. In the early 1960s, ska was the dominant music genre of Jamaica and was popular with the British Mod Scene and has had countless revivals over the years.
Drumdrops have a fine pedigree with live played Dub, Reggae and now Ska beats which use only the finest original drumming talent and stay true to the original recording methods and natural Tape recordings as seen in Studio One back in the day when the Jamaicans first created this sound.
Horseman is the best reggae drummer in the UK. As drummer for the Reggae Regulars and the Ruff cut band he has backed the best Reggae artists in the business; Max Romeo, Little Roy, Big Youth and Prince Fatty.
Famous for his precision timing and fearsome delivery. Having worked alongside producers and engineers like Jah Shaka and Mad Professor has guaranteed his status both in the studio and on stage. Horeseman re-tuned his drums to 60s perfection and let rip his favourite Ska grooves from back in the day !
Drumdrops in Ska was recorded with a vintage Rogers drum kit and Ludwig snare at the Drumdrops HQ using Ampex MM1200 tape machine and vintage gear.
Cranked and high tuned snare, thrashy hats and rides, the sound is faithful to the classic Duke Reid and Studio One Skatalites era.
Drumdrops in Ska drum tracks are available to purchase and download as drum multi-tracks. These contain a ProTools session files, OMF files (for importing into other DAW such as Logic and Cubase) the beat tempo map for syncing to external MIDI gear and all the seperate audio parts as 24 bit, 44.1 khz WAVs. It can also be downloaded as mixed ska drum stems. The mixed drum stems are great for people wanting a quick and easy backing track to start writing with. Like all the Drumdrops drum tracks they can be purchased on a track by track basis in either format or as a whole album.
